Well, today we got a letter home in Nicki's BEAR book that read:
-----------------------------------
Parents of Nicole Belthrop (which I corrected to Balthrop)
Your child has been selected to participate in a literacy group at Colinas Del Norte Elementary School. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to receive extra help with reading and writing from a specifically trained teacher in a small group setting. This is a supplemental program, and your child will still be receiving regular reading and writing instruction in his/her classroom. This program is designed as in intervention for students who are reading below (or above) their grade level. This is NOT a special education program.
To achieve maximum growth in reading and writing, it is very important that your child attends school daily and arrives on time. If you have any questions, please call me, Amber Byrd, the literacy group teacher, at 896-3378, etx. 153. I look forward to work with your child.
I can see Nicole Mondays/Tuesdays/Thursdays from 9:15-10:00. We will work on writing and reading skills. Mrs. Byrd.
-----------------------------
So, I signed the permission for Nicole to participate in the program and it will be going back to school with her tomorrow. So, I guess they found out whatever they needed to and are going to help her develop her reading skills even further. Apparently, she is still doing the 1st grade work in class, and she is really enjoying school! Not only that, but being able to do the additional reading education, while still being able to participate in the fun Kindergarten activities -- this is shaping up to be a pretty good year for little Miss! :-)

That's great news! Can't imagine what she needs to work on with her reading though, she's already awesome at it!
