Good Things to Come!!!!

We took Nicki to school today to drop off some 'helping hands' items for her classroom, and we were met at the front gate, by none other than Mrs. Byrd (the one who sent the letter home yesterday). She and Nicki noticed each other right away and Mrs. Byrd approached us. She then explained to us that she's not looking to help Nicki read, but to give her more of a challenge and help advance her skills further, since she is reading at/above a 3rd grade level.

Then, when we dropped the materials off in the classroom, the teacher asked if we are pleased with her working with Mrs. Byrd while the SAT (School Assessment Team) is gathering the information to test her for the gifted program. Since we didn't know that they were actually going through with the SAT, we are very pleased to hear about that. She said that she is still doing the 1st grade work in class (and doing a good job on that work) and her in-class behavior seems to be doing very well. That was a nice surprise to hear that they have everything under control and are doing everything they can to make sure she is being challenged at school.

Then, since Nicki was waiting outside the classroom (like they do every morning until the teacher comes and gets them), we stopped by as we were leaving campus and got to meet 'Christopher', the little boy that she seems to be quite smitten with. UGH!!! Already! She said that she and Christopher had to walk to the nurse yesterday (so she could check their eyesight and height, etc.) and she wanted to show him her 'good manners', so she extended her hand to hold his. He apparently, accepted this gesture and they walked hand-in-hand with 'smiles on both our faces' to the nurse's office. It's cute that she is so smitten with him, but my goodness, this is so early!!!! I don't think I'm ready for it yet!!!!
