Nicki and I flew into Texas on Sunday evening, thanks to my brother, David and his wife Meredith. Can't thank them enough for flying us down here to see Brad. I've been at the hospital everyday and am just not sure what to think... Thinking positive, for sure, but not sure what to expect beyond that!
For starters, Brad is doing FANTASTIC, considering the circumstances! He is still quite jaundiced (eyes and skin) and is still bleeding somewhere internally; however, his bilirubin count has continued to steadily drop each day we've been here and today the bilirubin is at 33! It's not a good number, but a considerable improvement over 49!!!! The doctors came in today and said, 'We have no idea why your bilirubin went up so high in the first place, so we don't know why they're coming back down!' So, they were planning on doing a CT Angioplasty (or angiogram... not sure) today, to find the source of the bleeding, but they don't want to give him the dye in his blood because it's really hard on the kidneys (which are not happy at the moment anyways, due to the fact that they've been having to filter so much bilirubin) and want to try and wait it out if possible. That's a bit frustrating, but I can understand why they don't want to 'rock the boat' at the moment with his numbers improving so much! The doctor even said, 'you were at death's door and you are getting better everyday now!' I think that's a good sign!
Nicki got to spend the morning with her Great-Granny and Great-Granddad (Jason's Grandparents) and had a fantastic time with them! I'm so glad she's getting to see her relatives while we're back in town... even if the initial reason for us visiting is not a good one. Tomorrow she's spending the morning with Great-Grandpa (my Grandpa) and is looking forward to running through the sprinklers. Sounds like it's going to be a great day!
I hope to find Brad looking even BETTER tomorrow, than he was today!
