Well, it's official, Nicki does have pink eye... not only in her right eye, as previously suspected, but in both. This first picture shows how red her right eye was Monday night. It looks like it didn't spread to the other eye until last night or this morning (sometime AFTER I took this picture). The doctor only had to walk in the door and see her today and knew right away that she had a pretty bad case of 'pink eye'. :-(
Her eyes don't look quite as bad today, but they are constantly getting gooey eye bogeys stuck in them and last night she even woke up at 1:oo A.M. with her right eye completely matted shut. She was really freaked out and rightfully so... that would be scary for anyone! It took me half an hour of warm compressed to try to get it opened and even then, it wouldn't open the whole way. It was awful (and VERY VERY gross).
The next picture is her sitting in the doctor's office awaiting her turn and playing DS.
You can't really tell from the pictures from today, but her eyes are purple underneath and the Pediatrician said that because of that, she was sure that Nicki also had a sinus infection. Ugh... poor thing. I don't know how it got so bad so fast. How do you NOT feel like the worst Mom in the world when you take your kid to the doctor in such bad shape? :-(
This last picture is of her trying to catch snow flakes on her tongue (it started snowing right when we pulled into the driveway). It's hard to tell from the picture, but her eyes are all reddish and purplish underneath. She's feeling a bit better today, although she was so scared her eyes would get stuck again, that she didn't sleep much after 1 A.M., so I'm sure she's exhausted. The doctor prescribed some really potent antibiotic eye drops AND an oral antibiotic, and expects her to return to school on Thursday (which is good because they have their Valentine's Day party on Thursday AND she has Storyteller's Club after school) as long as the pink in her eyes is gone. Along with the antibiotic eye drops and the oral antibiotics, I have to continue giving her her morning Claritin, her nightly nasal spray and Delsym (for her cough) both in the morning and at night. Whew! I tell ya' what... I'm TRYING to get this girl healthy -- and QUICK! I hope it works!!!!
