Progress Report....

I figured it had been a while since I posted some of Nicki's latest work. She's really digging school, which is such a relief, since it started out a little rocky. She loves the challenging work and is continuing to improve. Here are some of the things she's done within the past couple weeks.
1) This is one of my favorites: It is an exercise in logic and it asks what happens when you put each of these things in an oven... Let me translate a little 'maolt' = melt (she was trying to sound it out and she's a Texan, so she had to put a few more sounds in there than necessary!) LOL Also, 'wrost' = rust. Jason had the hardest time with this, because even though a metal key would not
rust in an oven, the teacher wrote in 'explode' as the correct answer. I was just thrilled that Nicki associated 'rusting' with something that happens to metal. I thought that was cool that she was able to put them together!

2) This next sheet is from her 'Book-in-a-Bag' homework that the teacher sends home once a week. This book was a compilation of invention stories and although Nicki had trouble with the names of some of the inventors, she seemed to enjoy the book. All of the answers she wrote down are her own, although I did help her with the spelling. I thought she did a good job retelling how popsicles were made! lol

3)
This third item is a turtle puppet, and although he is Kindergarten work (not the 1st grader work I've shown in the first two items), I just think he's terribly cute! LOL In fact, she not only does her 1st grader work, but also had to do almost all the same Kindergarten work as well, so she's a busy critter!

She has done other things, too, but that pretty much sums up the highlights for the past two weeks!

Since when would a key EXPLODE in an oven?!? I really don't think so, but okay. :) I like Nicki's answer! What a smart little thing to associate rust with a key!
