My Snowball!

In honor of the famed poet/author Shel Silverstein, the kids at Nicki's school have the opportunity to dress up like a character from one of his poems or stories. Nicki decided she wanted to be a snowball from the book of poems titled "Falling Up". She has the poem memorized and it goes as follows:

Snowball - by Shel Silverstein

I made myself a snowball

As perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.

I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,

But first - it wet the bed.

She wanted to dress up and after a little brainstorming, I told her I could knit her a hat and make a big pom-pom to go on top... she loved the idea. So it was all set... she was going to wear her white polo and her white hat for her 'costume'. Then, this morning, she starts to chicken out. She tells me she's 'too nervous' to wear it. I told her: 1) it's already cold out, so you're just wearing a hat... not too crazy of a costume there and 2) it's my job as her mom to give her courage and strength to do these types of things and not chicken out.

So, she got brave until we pulled into the school parking lot... then I couldn't find her hat... she got all nervous again and I told her to be tough... to put on her hat. So, as we walked to her classroom, we passed a girl who donned a whole bunny costume! I told Nicki, 'See? You just look like you're dressed for a cold morning! Do you feel better now?' She said she did and was all smiles as I left the school.

I told her to have a great day and don't melt! :)
